Tsitsikamma Marine Retaining Wall - Storms River Mouth

Outeniqua Geotechnical Services was appointed to design a 5m high marine retaining wall at the Storms River Rest Camp at the Tsitsikamma National Park. The founding conditions were critical and needed to be securely socketed into competent rock below the high water mark to prevent undermining by the waves.

Upgrade of the R61 National Route

Outeniqua Geotechnical Services has been appointed to provide specialist geotechnical services on three separate road contracts for the upgrade of the R61 National Route between Queenstown and Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape. Several sections of the R61 have undergone improvements and widening to the value of several billion Rand over the last few years. The most challenging section of the road has been the mountainous terrain between Majola Tea and Tombo near Port St Johns, which required deep cutting and the re-building of several large fills and mechanically-stabilised earth walls (MSEW’s). Outeniqua Geotechnical Services was appointed by Mott MacDonald Consulting Engineers as independent Geotechnical Engineers to investigate this section of the route and analyse the stability of newly constructed fills, MSEWs and gabion retaining structures along this section.
